Guest Post: Dreams

As an inspirational speaker, Sherika V. Washington has a desire to share the tools our young people need in order to be heard, understood, and respected.
Through a spoken presentation that includes practical application exercises, our young people will leave on fire; ready and equipped to make a change in themselves and in society.
Speak Life Always is an interactive presentation that teaches participants how to transform LIFELESS words into LIVING words that will sustain them for a lifetime.

As children we all had dreams just like most of us continue to have today. So why haven’t those dreams manifested yet? As children we believed those dreams would come true, each and every one of them. But we grew up, life happened and we placed those dreams in a little box in our minds and labeled them: DREAMS.
A dream is defined as:
  1. Pictures or events in the mind of a sleeping person.
  2. Daydream or fantasy.
  3. Ideal; aspiration.
  4. Beautiful or ideal person or thing.
In our youth our dreams are defined as #3. As we grow they become definition #1. That should not be the case. Today, I admonish you to reach into your dream box and pull one dream out at a time, rename it IDEAL or ASPIRATION and make it a reality. It’s time to lace up your vision sneakers and start dream-chasing!
Before you assume this is just another ‘you can do anything, pep rally type blog, I want to be clear. I am quite practical and realistic. And the reality happens to be that times have changed so much since the days of our youth. The resources needed to accomplish our most far-fetched childhood imaginations are now right at our fingertips. We simply haven’t revisited those dreams lately. Therefore, we have no idea how easy it would be to make the dream a reality today.
Another reality is you’re wiser. Whether you decided to embrace growing older or if you’re fighting it every step of the way you are wiser than you once were. With this new wisdom you can bring your dreams into perspective and into fruition.
It is time to make a move, that move that life has been nudging you toward ever since you spoke the dream/ideal/aspiration out of your mouth the very first time.
Believe in your dreams again and watch them come to pass!
Speak Life Always!
