Enjoying The Last Days Of Summer #spon

Oh the long lazy days of Summer! Today was the first day of school for us and a stark reminder that summer will soon be wrapping up for good. One of the benefits of living in South Carolina is that we’ll have great outdoors weather for a few more months – one of the down sides is that we’ll have not-so-fun flying critters for awhile, too. Flies and mosquitoes are ruthless around these parts and can truly put a damper on an afternoon in the backyard.

My husband installing our #MagneticScreenDoor

We – okay, my husband – was able to quickly install the Magnetic Screen Door we received before an impromptu grill night. My kids love playing outdoors but they seem to find a gazillion reasons to come back indoors – water, bathroom breaks, toys, you name it. Usually after an evening outdoors, we’ll come inside to find we have flies that have managed to get indoors and I spend the remainder of the evening on a fly-hunt. This was not the case once we installed the Magnetic Screen Door! This was one of those products that was an immediate hit for me because I could quickly see the impact and a few weeks later it’s still doing what it is supposed to – keeping the bugs out.

We’ll soon be investing in another one to put at the garage door that opens into our kitchen.

Before installing the Magnetic Screen Door, we used quite a few home remedies to keep the flies at bay:

  • Water in a Ziploc bag (the reflection off the water is supposed to be a deterrent)
  • Citronella candles
  • Home-made baits (the wide mouth jar with a sugary substance to attract them)

I have noticed that citronella makes an impact and have placed citronella plants on my back patio and around my yard as a natural deterrent, too.

What say you, Divas? How are you enjoying the last days of summer? How do you keep bugs away so your family can enjoy your outside time? Feel free to share here on the blog or chime in on our Facebook page.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
