Learn To Accept Praise and Compliments
Welcome to Day 11 of our 31 Days of Embracing Your Divatude Challenge! Today’s challenge is to accept praise and compliments. I am not saying to go out searching for them, but if someone says “way to go!” or “I love that top” – accept it with a smile and thanks without diminishing the compliment.
If you are new to the challenge, you can catch up here.
Briefly, the month of May is dedicated to focusing on our Divatude – being driven, inspiring, victorious and called to action in our personal and professional lives. As women, different aspects of divatude impact our daily walk at all times. Our focus with this challenge is taking the time to reflect on our daily attitudes and actions and ensuring we are focusing on what will lift us and others around us up.
I see it too many times to count in my personal and professional circles and it drives me absolutely batty:
Diva A: I love that top! It is gorgeous and really compliments you.
Diva B: Oh – this old thing. It’s okay. I have had it for ages. It’s alright.
OR
Diva A: You did a great job on that project!
Diva B: Not really. I got scattered and forgot to say something.
Diva A: Really? You couldn’t even tell. You really held it together under pressure.
Diva B: Sigh…I can’t believe I did that.
Somehow, someway we have programmed ourselves to diminish praise and compliments that we receive. Why is that?
Sometimes we may receive compliments that we feel aren’t sincere or that we aren’t deserving of. The best thing to do? Just smile and say thank you. That simple act covers so many bases.
Let us commit to accept praise and compliments from others by:
- Saying thank you
- Not turning down the compliment
- Not putting ourselves down
- Not being arrogant in our responses or reactions
Today’s Challenge: Accept praise and compliments you receive without diminishing them. Embrace and accept them knowing they come from a place of sincerity. You deserve it!
