Your Personal Mission Statement

Welcome to Day  9 of our 31 Days The Embracing Your Divatude 31 Day Challenge! Today we are focusing on your personal mission statement. Yep, you read that correctly. We’ve focused on what drives and inspires you, your why and your personal strengths – throughout the month we are going to build on our challenges to form

If you are new to the challenge, you can catch up here.

Briefly, the month of May is dedicated to focusing on our Divatude – being driven, inspiring, victorious and called to action in our personal and professional lives. As women, different aspects of divatude impact our daily walk at all times. Our focus with this challenge is taking the time to reflect on our daily attitudes and actions and ensuring we are focusing on what will lift us and others around us up.

31 Days of Embracing Your Divatude

Let’s be clear – a mission statement will not be completed, polished and wrapped in a tiny bow within 10-15 minutes.

However, I’m asking you to dedicate some time today reflecting on what you want to put in your personal statement – something that will evolve and change as you grow.

Why a Personal Mission Statement

Why a personal mission statement?

This is a way to focus and align your life’s purpose with your daily walk.  That still sounds pretty serious and official-like, right? Really, in my opinion, it’s a brief statement or list of words that give you a clear overview on how you’d like to live each day.  Will you do it each and every day? Probably not, but it helps you focus your energies and activities.

Most company mission statements communicate their primary goals, values and purpose. As individuals focused on making a difference in our families, organizations, communities and those we reach – why shouldn’t we be able to communicate the same?

Creating Your Personal Mission Statement

Some questions to reflect on:

  • what makes you smile?
  • what are you naturally good at?
  • if you could teach anything, what would it be?
  • what are your core values? what’s most important to you?
  • what 3-5 words come to mind when you think of yourself?
  • what do you do when you’re procrastinating?
  • what do people come to you for advice on?

Putting it all together…first and foremost, it’s YOUR personal mission statement so it can read and be phrased however you like.

Whatever motivates, inspires and helps you.

Some start each sentence off with words like “I will”, “I am”, “I believe”, “I do”.

Some use only positive affirmations and some use negative words to emphasize what they want to remove from their environments.

Do whatever feels right and natural for you!  Begin writing and see what comes out. Take some time to polish it and work on it until you’re satisfied.  Once you’re done – type it out, make it pretty and put it somewhere you’ll see each day to inspire and motivate you to be the best you that you can be.
