Teaching my children the meaning of Easter

Happy Resurrection Sunday to you all!

Today is a day that many celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. Families gather for early morning services, family brunches, Easter egg hunts and to share in the joy and love of Christ.

Last night, my younger two children and I spent the evening together practicing their speeches, looking for church shoes that always go missing, and making a special treat for breakfast this morning – Easter cookies.

What I loved about this recipe was that it was easy to follow and each step explained a part of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus and includes a short scripture.

The ingredients were all items I had in my pantry and those with nut allergies can substitute chocolate chips. Next year, I’m thinking we’re going to do a mixture of both pecans and chocolate chips!

From the vingerary concoction given to him on the cross, to the salty tears shed by those who loved and followed him, and the empty tomb He left behind – this will become a teaching tradition in our family for years. We’ll be making laminated printed directions that include the steps and scriptures.
